The school year ended with a flourish of pomp and circumstance. Sophia Graduated and made academic honors. The ceremony was...efficient shall we say and held in the turf of the school stadium. Tickets were limited but masks were all but a memory. The next morning Merrick had his "promotion" ceremony to enter the high school that Sophia had just left. The new aluminum seating was directly across from the rising sun and combined with a turf field and no evapotranspiration we were basically sitting in a solar oven facing a welding torch....with early morning temps in the high 80s if not low 90s.
The heat wave settled out towards the end of the week just in time for Sophia's Grad party at the park. low 70s surrounded by family and friends made for a wonderful transition into college for her. The house was packed with all the crews with OH and LaX staying the weekend and TR making the day trip up for a backyard extended party. There were yard games, tacos and chillaxing. No rest for the wicked so two days later and another visit from Grandprize and Grandma we celebrated Sophia's big birthday.....at Red Lobster. It was a seemingly strange request, but one that we honored and hope that it was last questionable decision she would make as an adult! :-) As the dust settled we had two solid days of rain and guilt free nothingness on the couch...before we started requesting College tours for Ella and preparing to do it all over again next year!
