We have been busy with all the events that are life, the events that give us pause for reflection and the events the give us milestones of celebration. We headed back to EC to Celebrate the long and story-filled life of Grandpa Daryl. He would have liked nothing more than to know that even in his passing that family gathered for the event. We told some great stories and laughed as we worked through the grief in our own ways filling Grandma and Grandprize's house in the process.
It was a quick trip over and back. While Merrick chose not to go to homecoming Grace wasn't about to miss it. Her and her friends were making bouquets at the house and then all met over at Lambeau for photos. Amy and I went to capture a few shots and had to hit Hobby Lobby on the way for a wardrobe malfunction kit. Grace was completely unfazed by getting stitched up in the atrium before her gang headed off to chick a filet for a pre dance meal.
Somewhere in those events we also drove north looking for the northern lights, we did see them, albeit wispy and light rather than bold and trippy. Shelly came for a visit as well, that too was a whirlwind stopping first in EC to pick up Ella and then an over and back trip with Missy in the same day for a quick visit. Life is made up of all these little moments, the fodder of thoughts as you look toward the night sky and strain for either more boldness or find contentment in the wisps and subtle shimmers of light.

Grace was invited to play in a La Crosse Tourney against the legendary East Coast teams and we decided to add a day to each side of the play and take in some beach time as well. The Tourney was heavily recruited, 35 big name schools like Harvard, Penn, etc.. and the conversations we overheard were a notch up from what we are accustomed to, but somethings were the same...namely the rain. We missed the rain as we flew in but the fields did not, so the first practice was cancelled due to wet fields. The rest of the tourney was fine however, if not just down right hot on the turf. Standard pool play followed by a day of bracket play. They played teams from Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. Grace put two into the net in the opening game and played strong through out the weekend. They lost a tough match, due to a bad ref whistle on Saturday and ended up facing the same team for the Championship grudge match that saw an opposing player go down with heat stroke. It was a battle against the Atlanta team that went into a sudden death overtime....again a faulty ref whistle negated a self-goal fluke by the opposing goalie that essentially solidified Grace to Second place. There was zero shame and we were all amazed and proud that they placed so high and played so strong against East coast teams. Grace's first university contact came in before we boarded the plane out of town...overall just a really cool LaX experiences.
Odd weekend without any photos to back up any stories, but Amy and I were both on Video mode and didn't capture any stills....also it was possible that our phones overheated and deleted all the film. We were outside of Chicago for an LaX tournament at "Pipe City"...a massive 50 field complex with teams from all over the US and a few From Canada. The temperatures were scorching hot and with few subs on the team Grace's team eventually had their legs run off of them by the end of Saturday's pool play. She did notch up a goal in the penultimate game to keep them from suffering a shut out. Storms rolled in hard Saturday night drenching the fields and with a continuation of Rain on Sunday morning the bracket play was limited to turf fields only and ultimately cut in half. Grace's team didnt make the final cut so after waiting around we headed home and stopped at a Cheesecake heaven for some chicken and waffles before heading home. Traffic was light, which we found out later was likely do to random shootings on 43N...only got bogged down in a construction zone when we had to slow/swerve to avoid a couple of kayaks in the road.
Ella is off camping with her boyfriend and a group of friends, for I think their second of 3 planned camping trips. Merrick was notified he was an AP Scholar for his performance and number of tests taken for the system. Sophia is in the hunt for a new job and we are waiting to see how that turns out for her.
